Looking Ahead — Agents and MCP
Control through external agents on the Mac is planned for iKanban 4.1, for example Codex in iTerm or an agent in Speccify. The connection through the Model Context Protocol (MCP) is intended to become part of a Pro subscription whose details are still being defined. It is not part of version 4.0.
What already exists
Section titled “What already exists”ikanban-mcp is a working technical prototype: a local server connects external agents to cards, lists, projects and files. It provides the foundation for the planned workflow; the finished user experience, Pro integration and validation with real clients are still ahead.
There is no public download yet. The subscription’s scope, price and release date have not been set.
The built-in assistant in 4.0
Section titled “The built-in assistant in 4.0”The built-in Apple Intelligence assistant remains free and works locally on your device. It includes project chat, card suggestions from notes and images as context. It requires a compatible device, a supported language and available models. See The Assistant.
For the planned external connection, how your data is processed depends on your chosen agent and its model provider. Running the MCP server locally does not by itself mean that an external agent processes all data locally.
