Files and Documents
iKanban keeps its files in its own folder in iCloud Drive, so you see the same files on Mac, iPad and iPhone. Documents shows that whole folder. Files inside a project shows only that project’s folder, its support material.
Browse Documents
Section titled “Browse Documents”- Tap Documents, the fourth symbol at the top of the sidebar.
- Choose All Documents or one of the folders listed below it.
- In the content, tap a folder to open it. The path at the top takes you back up.
Tap a file to show it in the inspector, which has three tabs:
- Preview: PDFs, images and text files.
- Info: name, folder, size, date modified, and the cards this file is attached to.
- Actions: Show in Finder (on Mac) or Share… (on iPad and iPhone), Open in Default App, and, for a file in a project folder, a button that pins it to that project’s pinboard.
A project’s files
Section titled “A project’s files”Every project has a folder in iCloud Drive, Projects/‹project name›. It holds the plan (plan.md), the project’s pinboards, sketches, journals and mindmaps, and any other material you add.
Under Files in the project sidebar you see this folder as a tree. Tap a file to open it in the content:
- Text files (Markdown, plain text, JSON, CSV, YAML) open in an editor. Choose Save (⌘S on Mac) to write your changes. If saving fails, you see a message and your text stays in the editor.
- PDFs and images appear as a preview.
- For other files, choose Open in Default App. On iPad and iPhone this shows a preview.
plan.md is an ordinary Markdown file. Here you edit it as plain text, all sections at once.
The toolbar above the content has buttons to open or preview the file, to show it in the Finder (on Mac) or share it (on iPad and iPhone), and Refresh.
Add files to a project
Section titled “Add files to a project”- On Mac: drag files from the Finder onto the Files content. iKanban copies them into the project folder.
- On iPad and iPhone: tap Import Files in the Files toolbar and pick the files.
New files reach your other devices through iCloud Drive. To put a file on the project’s wall, drag it from the sidebar onto a pinboard or choose Pin to … in its context menu. See Pinboards.
Files that are still in iCloud
Section titled “Files that are still in iCloud”A file that isn’t on this device yet shows a cloud symbol. Tap it to download it. In the project sidebar you can also choose Download from its context menu.
Attachments on cards
Section titled “Attachments on cards”Cards can reference files as attachments, your support material linked to the next action. A card’s inspector lists them under Attachments; tap one to open it in Documents. The other way round, the Info tab of a document lists every card it is attached to. See Cards.
